I love a good, fresh new planner. My favorite planners are bright and colorful but still simple enough not to distract away from its purpose. If I can accomplish all of those things and still remain within a reasonable price, even better! Target is almost always my first go-to for cute and inexpensive planners but buying online is a great option too (especially if you can get away with free shipping). I've rounded up some of my favorite planners for 2015 below.
2014 has truly treated me well. Between wrapping up my senior year of college, celebrating those last few weeks and then days before graduation with friends from school, traveling during the summer to visit friends and family and starting my first full-time job, this year has flown by. I remember last January and thinking how quickly the next few months would go by and now here we are, 2015. I couldn't be more grateful for the experiences I've had.
One of my family's biggest traditions during the holidays is to make enough candy to feed an army to give family and friends as gifts. I grew up helping my Mom in the kitchen to make the candy and I loved it and looked forward to it each year. These No-Bake Oreo Truffles are always an easy but delicious go-to for holiday candy-making and with only three ingredients, this might possibly be one of the easiest candies to make but a candy that is sure to earn you the most compliments at your next Christmas party!
One of my favorite things about the holidays (besides seeing family & stuffing ourselves with great food) is shopping and picking out gifts for those I love. I can't even deny it. My second favorite thing is making elaborate lists of my own wish list, which include everything from very affordable accessories to things that I know I'll never see in my lifetime (example: this) … yeah, exactly. A girl can wish, right? But even with my detailed wish list and making lists for gift ideas for others, even I have to stop and remember that I am still newly graduated from college and my piggy bank isn't as fat as I'd love for it to be. That being said, I've come up with a gift guide for those looking to spend no more than $40 {for her} while still managing to give a thoughtful and affordable gift. Mind you, half of these items come from my newest favorite store, Tuckernuck. Plaid Scarf | Tortoise Bangles | Plaid Shirt | Sunburst Earrings | Monogram Necklace | Key Fob | iPhone Case | Turquoise Necklace | Coaster Set One of my top favorite things on this list is the plaid flannel. Besides sitting around in your PJ's, I think a warm flannel is just about the next best thing you could wear. They are one of my favorite things to pair with a vest, jeans and boots. #basic. But I don't care. This L.L. Bean flannel is the jackpot. I also have a soft spot for turquoise - summer or not, I will wear turquoise year-round because I just love the color so much. Naturally, I fell in love with these sunburst earrings and the geometric turquoise necklace from a shop I found on Etsy (which is a great place to find unique and affordable jewelry). Although an item I'd have to convince myself to splurge on, these hot pink coasters are something that I find so unique and interesting. I love how different they are to typical coasters and the pop of color they would add to a boring coffee or side table. I'm also a sucker for a good monogram so the gold name plate necklace was a no-brainer on my list.
I've recently started working at my first "big girl job" where I have my own desk and monitor, and with this big step I also moved into a new apartment closer to work. Soon after starting this job I noticed that my desk was kind of (completely) bare and naturally I wanted to fix this immediately. After searching different websites and looking at different desk accessories I came across a few simple and small desk calendars. The only negative was that I definitely couldn't pay what they cost, which ranged anywhere from $40 to $60 (ugh). The upside though - since the calendars were so simple, they probably weren't that hard to make my own version of. So that's what I did. Even better? - the version I made only needed 5 materials, 2 or 3 of which you probably already have sitting around. Here are some of the desk calendars that inspired my DIY:
Summertime is my favorite season of the year. There's nothing I want more when it's 40 degrees out than the warm sun, outdoor concerts and long summer days. That being said, fall is definitely the next best thing and I love preparing for it! A few months ago I discovered an artist, Evelyn Henson, through Pinterest and her colorful paintings immediately caught my eye. Not only could you get lost combing over her Pinterest boards for hours but her website and blog are just as elaborate. You can find all of her beautiful work on her website along with tips and inspirational ideas on her blog, "Behind the Palette," which is the reason for this post. Evelyn has a unique way of connecting with her audience by sharing her ideas and free downloads of her chic but simply inspired prints. Among some of those downloads include monthly calender downloads that I have used ever since discovering her blog back in the spring. Since I get bored looking at the same desktop background on my laptop, her calendar downloads are something I look forward to each month. It's a free and easy alternate to whatever your usual desktop background is and the colors and simplicity never disappoint! Here are the December downloads: All you need to do to use the calendars is drag the picture from her blog to your desktop, right-click, set as background and enjoy!
