Although I couldn't find the Michael Kors watch online at the price I snagged it for a T.J. Maxx, I did find a very good dupe of the watch on Overstock.com. The same MK watch I got at T.J. Maxx is going for $173 on Overstock right now, while the Geneva dupe lands under $30! Obviously the quality of these watches are not going to be the same but if you've been eyeing this watch like I have, and are just going for the look of the watch and the turquoise face, the Geneva watch on Overstock is definitely a great option!
Michael Kors Channing Stainless Steel Watch ($173) | Geneva Platinum Roman Numeral Link Watch ($28) I have been eyeing the Michael Kors Channing Turquoise Gold Steel Watch since last summer but could never justify buying it, especially since I don't wear watches that often. I convinced myself that I would wear this watch if I had it, but kept it on the back burner until this past weekend when I walked by the jewelry counter at T.J. Maxx and my eyes fell upon the glory that is this watch. It was a fraction of the price I had seen it going for last summer in other department stores so I had to make it mine.

1. Decorate pumpkins. Decorating pumpkins is at the top of my October To-Do List right now. I'm determined to get myself into the fall spirit this season by decorating around the house. I have carved pumpkins in the past but after about a week and a half of weathering sun and rain, carved pumpkins tend to get nasty and wilt before you've really got to enjoy them. I got the idea to decorate the outside of the pumpkin from Pinterest - hopefully it will turn out as I am hoping. Fingers crossed. 2. Bake more. If I'm on Pinterest, I'm more than likely pinning one of two things - clothes or food (more than likely the latter), so I've come across a few desserts I'd love to try this month. 3. Pick up the paint brush again. Back a few months ago when I was still working with AmeriCorps, I had a lot of free time on my hands and starting painting again. Nothing calms me more than sitting down with a blank canvas and creating something. I'm working on a gallery wall now but I'm thinking about painting some things to give out as presents at Christmas. Nothing like a home made gift. 4. Learn how to french braid my own hair. I have and will always be envious of those who can do hair well. I have the most plain hair - neither curly or stick straight but just wavy enough for me to either have to straighten or attempt to curl if I want it to look nice. I would really love to learn how to french braid and be able to french braid my own hair, especially since it's getting so long. 5. New tennis shoes. I like the look of Nike Flyknit tennis shoes. I don't know how I'd like not wearing socks with my tennis shoes but I'd love to check them out.
I got the idea to do this monogram thumbtack art from Pinterest (shocker). And anyone who knows me knows that after I get an idea into my head about a DIY project, I won't sleep until I've got all the materials and can start on it immediately. The cooler the DIY, the more excited I get. This DIY seemed simple enough; it only needed a square canvas and thumbtacks. The hardest part was finding a way to make the actual monogram letters so that their size was proportioned to the canvas and also precise. Once I created the letters, the hardest part was out of the way and the thumbtacking could commence! After tracing the letters onto the canvas, I outlined the letters first so that I could go row by row for a clean, put together look. If you make your monogram as big as I did, you will need a hammer to lightly hammer the thumbtacks into the wood that frames the canvas. See the bottom left tip of the J and the middle line of the E on the right? Those needed a little hammering. GOOD LUCK. I got these gold thumbtacks at my local Dollar Tree store and they were perfect for the job. For $1 I got 300 thumbtacks but I ended up buying 3 packs because I had no idea where 300 thumbtacks would get me, or even if 600 thumbtacks would do the job. Emoji praying hands that I bought 3 packs because this is where 600 thumbtacks got me... Being that I was gifted this canvas from my cousin last Christmas, this project only cost me $3! The finished product!
I find it harder and harder to stay away from tassels, especially in the summer. Although I've never shopped at Baublebar before, there aren't too many pieces of jewelry on their website that I don't like. I love this Festival Tassel Bracelet. The colors are so bright and playful and it can be stacked with any of the regular day-to-day bracelets you wear. I've been eyeing the Cape Town Bracelet Builder deal that Baublebar has had for a while too. I've seen the bracelets all over Instagram and other blogs and they're so pretty! You get to pick 5 bracelets for $62, which sounds high but the price of each bracelet individually is anywhere from $30-40. If you're committed enough, $62 for 5 bracelets is a steal for Baublebar, especially if you would buy 2 bracelets individually anyway.
I'm also loving these Jack Roger sandals, which I feel are a very different sandal than I've ever seen them make before. Now, I don't and have never owned Jack Rogers. I buy the off brand that normally run about $30; $25 if you can find them on sale. But there are pros and cons to any lookalike that comes with a lower price tag. Although they may look and appear identical, the lookalikes aren't going to be as great of a quality as the real thing. And you find that out very quickly with the lookalike Jack Rogers. I've gone through about 3 pairs now because the material on the body of the sandal tears so easily. So I've now spent more on 3 pair of lookalikes than these awesome real Jack Roger But you get what you pay for, right? Anyway, the important takeaway from this post is that these Jack Roger Liliana Sandals are normally $130 but 6pm.com is having an end of season sandal sale for 70% off or more on sandals... meaning you can find these sandals for as low as $39!! What is one of the best parts of summer? Fully stocked fresh fruits at the grocery store. This Strawberry Chocolate Chip Cake is the perfect summer dessert for any occasion... or no occasion. Fresh strawberries, light and fluffy cake and melted chocolate chips topped with a dusting of powdered sugar. Paired with vanilla bean ice cream after it's been pulled fresh from the oven and you have hit the jackpot. It's so colorful and you'll find that you probably have most of the ingredients already on hand, which makes it even harder to resist not making.
Since the strawberries make the cake very moist, it's best kept cold in the fridge. When you're ready to serve or eat it, just pull it out, microwave and it's ready to go! I used semi-sweet chocolate chips in this cake, thinking that the cake would already be naturally sweet from the strawberries and batter but I will definitely use milk chocolate chips next time. The semi-sweet chips are sweet and tasted fine in the cake, but had a slight bitter taste that comes from using semi-sweet vs. milk chocolate. I love strawberries so I'm thinking it also wouldn't hurt to add a layer of strawberries in the middle of the cake before topping the it off with a surface layer.
I love all the designer looks coming out this Spring/Summer. What I love even more is finding the same great look without throwing away a paycheck. I've been shopping around Target a lot recently and have been so surprised at how cute their Spring and Summer collection is. For me it's always been hard to find dresses that not only fit correctly at my chest but are also long enough to adequately cover my gifted derriere #blessed. They either fit perfectly at my chest but are too short or the length is perfect but it is too big in the chest. Moral to this story- when I find a dress that fits just right, I do not hesitate in snatching it up. While browsing around Target I also noticed that they've stepped their shoe game up this season. I've seen a lot of designer shoe dupes available this season. I'm talking J.Crew, Tory Burch and Valentino lookalikes! I've rounded up a few of the dupes and linked them in the images below!
1. Add a new t-shirt/tank to my collection. Some of my favorite t-shirts have come from The Southern Shirt Company! I love the bright colors and the soft, perfect fit. You can never have too many t-shirts. 2. Fourth of July inspired DIYs. My absolute favorite holiday is the Fourth of July. Hands down. I love summer; cookouts, warm weather, tan skin, beach/pool and hanging out with family and friends. I also love preparing for this wonderful holiday and getting into the spirit. For DIYs, I've been looking at this letter wreath or painting a wood pallet similar to this. 3. Nail down good quality, fitting swimsuits. My go-to places to shop for swimsuits are usually Target or Old Navy. I don't like spending a lot on bathing suits because they eventually fade and the material starts to pick so for the price and quality, I can never go wrong with Target. They always have tons of options in different sizes, colors, shapes and fits. These are some of my favorites right now: triangle, scallop, halter and ikat. 4. Make travel plans! I am planning to make another trip to NY this summer to visit friends over the Fourth of July weekend and I am so excited! I hate flying and tend to wait until the last minute to prepare when I travel so I need to be more proactive and plan better this go around. I can't believe that it is already June! It feels like we skipped Spring altogether but I'll take it!
I have been eyeing these wedges for the longest time! I'm not the best or most comfortable when it comes to walking in any kind of heel but wedges seem to be the easiest for me and these are just what I have been looking for. I like that they aren't strappy like most wedges and offer more stability since they cover the top of your feet. I love the triangle cutouts, open-toe and the dark tone of the wood wedge. I've also been obsessing over this turquoise-face Michael Kors watch since last summer and there's a slight chance that I'm talking myself into making it mine very soon. I don't exactly know how, but I stumbled upon a clothing line called MINKPINK that is carried at Nordstrom and the clothing is so cute! The line has a vintage/girly feel to it. This wonderful romper is MINKPINK and it could not be more simple and fun. The black and white pattern is classic but the neon trim on the pockets adds a vibrant pop. The halter neckline is so flattering. Happy weekend! SHOP MY FRIDAY FAVES:
I've been a tad MIA lately as I've had a lot of things going on all at once but I AM BACK. With my temporary absence I have realized just how important blogging is to me. It is a relaxing and therapeutic hobby that allows me to get my thoughts and ideas out creatively and I am going to make a better effort to make time for myself to blog more often. With that being said, I have made a visual To-Do List for May. You know how much I love a good list. 1. Dress your tech with Evelyn Henson's May desktop calendar. 2. Plant more flowers! and hopefully find an alternative to the pots I used for these succulents. These are my favorite ideas so far: rustic pots, marble planters and vintage tea tins. 3. Find a bigger and better planner. My current planner ends in June and I haven't stopped eyeing this Day Designer planner since stumbling upon it on Pinterest. My fav pattern is the Spotty Dots edition above. This planner is truly what dreams are made of - perfect for those with a need for organization and list-making (ME). The design and layout is spot on. 4. Make time to paint more. It is a rare occasion that I come home from work or the gym and find time to do/feel like doing anything other than sitting on the couch and catching up on shows after dinner. I've always loved painting and finding inspiration on Pinterest, whether a quote, pattern, etc. and sitting down with a canvas and paintbrush and just going at it. 5. Try a new recipe. After I graduated college last May meal plan-less and realized that it wasn't acceptable to waste money on eating out like I had done before, I'll admit... frozen nuggets and cereal (not together, gross) were a dinner staple for me for a while there. That has recently changed and I have branched out to bigger and better things like actually creating a slightly decent dinner for myself. My goal is to attempt to try at least one new recipe from my food board on Pinterest a month. I've already tried these recipes: turkey burgers, roasted brussel sprouts with garlic aioli and lemon garlic grilled chicken, and they were all delicious! I hope my To-Do List has made you feel slightly more motivated and excited about the month ahead. Happy May!
Remember this post from back in January? Well the day has finally arrived. Target's Lilly Pulitzer collection is hitting stores in 2 days!! Sunday, April 19! The collection of over 250 pieces will include apparel, accessories and shoes, beauty, home accents, outdoor entertaining accessories, beach gear, travel essentials and more with a price range from $2-$250, with most items averaging around $30. Here's a sneak peek at the Lilly Pulitzer for Target look book. I have to admit I've never been Lilly Pulitzer's #1 fan but this collection definitely has me excited and interested! I may just have to make a trip to Target on Sunday to check the collection out. I've compiled a few items from the collection I'm most excited to see!
