Ever since I was a little girl I have loved succulents. My grandmother had a large wooden barrel of what she called "hen and biddies," which I learned this week are more commonly known as "hen and chicks." Strange name aside, hen and biddies along with other species of succulents are one of the most interesting plants I've ever seen. They don't have petals or sprout bright colored blooms like a normal plant or flower. Their colors, shapes and texture are so unique and their minimal maintenance and upkeep make them the perfect plant for those with a history of killing their plants by forgetting to water them. They thrive from early spring to early winter, only needing a little spritz of water every few weeks.
After checking out both Lowe's and Home Depot this past weekend, I went with these beauties. Neither store had very many options/species to choose from as I would have liked so I will definitely be on the lookout for more! I didn't want to leave them in the plastic container they came in so I picked up these ceramic pots, which will be fine for now but I hope to find some really cool pots or old vintage tins to make their permanent home soon.
